Crying Shame is an honest look at my own fears and illusions. Its a song that I've carried with me for years. Hard to imagine, but it started as a slow bluesy acoustic folk tune, then I took it to the piano and it became gospel swing until I brought it to Kris Karlsson as a possibility for this EP and the life of the song finally came out.
lyrics
Freight trainʼs running thru my mind again
I still feel out of place in my own skin
I'm sprinting as fast as I can, but
I will never outrun my imagination
Hero worship suspends belief, and Iʼm
Slipping out of reality to easily
So afraid am I to succeed that I
Will sit at home and play my songs to no one
Such a crying shame
These battle lines Iʼve made
Playing losing games
With me, myself and no one
Ain't no shame, no crying shame
You have the strength, donʼt be afraid
Cause if youʼre standing in your own way
And itʼs driving you insane
It ain't no crying shame
Theyʼre just paper dolls living out my dreams
With drawn on faces of my own feelings
Play as though not in control of my own
Destiny but can you see thru to me
Now I know
No one can make me
Gotta do this on my own
Step on out and
Show my bravery
Got it now
Iʼm like a rolling stone
